Organic Grain Shortage

Sometimes we get consumers asking us why we chose to go down the path of organic grain for our chickens.  It’s simple for us to answer – we believe less chemicals in our food production is best - for our health, animal welfare, and the environment. 

The current drought situation in Queensland sees 65% of the land area of Queensland in drought, including the chief organic grain producing regions.  This has led to increasing competition for available organic grain, and naturally has greatly impacted cost. 







To produce a product that is in line with our values, maintains the viability of our farm and keeps our products accessible to consumers, we have sought an alternative to certified organic grain.  Country Heritage Feeds have developed an alternative natural feed, sourcing grain from farms like our own that although are not certified under an organic standard, do not use chemicals in their farming methods. This feed has been tested to be chemical residue free, and as such we think it’s a great option moving forward so we can continue to produce high quality eggs. 

As soon as it’s available our grain supply will shift to a product certified under an Australian Sustainable standard, which we will give you more information about in the future.
